A Story of Faith, Love, and Purpose

A Mother’s Strength Born from Love
This is the story of a mother who, driven by love and necessity, began creating handmade items to meet the needs of her 11-year-old son, who lives with a catastrophic health condition. Every day, this family fights to obtain an adapted minivan with a wheelchair ramp and to cover the many needs required to care for him.
A Family United by Their Son
Meitxy is the mother of José Arnal, a boy who began experiencing epileptic seizures at age 3. Over time, these episodes intensified until he was diagnosed with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, a severe, medication-resistant, and incurable condition.
Today, José faces:
-
an average of 30 seizures per day,
-
autism,
-
ADHD,
-
and developmental delays that require constant care.
His father, Jose Luis Ramos, plays a vital role in his daily care and emotional support. His sister, Juleitxy Aimeet Monet, a 27-year-old nurse and CEO of the family store, loves her brother deeply.
This family is a true team—and José depends on them for absolutely everything.
A Life Transformed by José’s Condition
For many years, Meitxy worked for the Puerto Rican government. But her own health challenges, combined with José’s increasing needs, forced her to leave her job and care for him full-time.
In 2024, the family had to urgently leave Puerto Rico for Florida when José’s seizures escalated to 100 episodes per day. At times, one side of his body would go limp for minutes. Surgery was considered, but because his seizures were generalized and included frequent drop attacks, options were limited.
That same year, José was hospitalized five times, including:
-
two stays in intensive care
-
one intubation
Through God’s mercy and the dedication of his medical team, his seizures were reduced from 100 to about 30 per day.
As part of the Puerto Rican diaspora, the family remained in Florida to secure better medical and educational opportunities for him. Though José can walk, his cognitive level resembles that of a young child. He wears diapers, often needs a wheelchair, and is at constant risk of falls and SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy).
The Unexpected Birth of a Purpose
Late at night—while praying, reading the Bible, and watching over her son—Meitxy began painting as a form of therapy. She must always be alert, ready to administer rescue medication whenever José has a seizure.
Many nights he cannot sleep.
Mom stays awake through the night.
Dad takes over at dawn.
As the number of handmade pieces grew, the idea of selling them emerged. Juleitxy took the lead, formalized the business, and helped expand the project with new handmade items.
Today, every creation holds a piece of this family’s heart—
their love for José, for every child facing incurable conditions, and for every parent and caregiver fighting tirelessly each day.
Despite every seizure and every difficult prognosis, José remains strong, joyful, and deeply loved.
